Reading comprehension
- This section focuses on activities and articles designed to support the development of key reading comprehension strategies for young learners, as most children’s books can be used to build comprehension.
- Aligned with the Australian Curriculum for Foundation (age 5), Year 1 (age 6), and Year 2 (age 7), these resources help children learn to:
– Visualise what’s happening in the text
– Predict what might happen next
– Connect the story to their own experiences
– Summarise key ideas
– Monitor their understanding
– Ask and answer questions to explore literal and inferred meaning - Many of the activities below support more than one strategy at a time and are designed to be flexible for classroom or home use. They are offered as reference tools to support both educators and families in nurturing confident, thoughtful readers.
