VISIT HIGHLIGHTS

Interaction

A unique opportunity for students to engage directly with the creator of a story. It fosters active participation, allowing students to ask questions, share their thoughts, and discuss the creative process, making reading and writing more relatable.

Inspiration

Sparking a sense of possibility in young minds. Hearing the author’s journey, challenges, and successes can motivate students to pursue their own creativity, encouraging them to write, illustrate, and develop their own ideas with newfound enthusiasm.

Education

Through the author’s Dialogic Reading, students will gain a deeper understanding of the lesson embedded in the story, which can enhance their comprehension, critical thinking, and ability to connect themes to real-life experiences.

THE VISIT

We recommend a 30 min session for each group. The school may want to combine two or three classes into one group.

A 30-min Session
Book Reading (15 min)
Students will listen to the story narrated by the author, bringing the book to life in an engaging and personal way.
Q&A (15 min)
Students can ask questions about the story or the author’s life, fostering curiosity and deeper understanding. The school and teachers may want to prepare questions with students beforehand to ensure a smooth and meaningful discussion.
After-visit Activity
The author will provide an accompanying activity tied to the book, designed for junior groups to work on in their classrooms after the session.
You can design your own visit structure, whether it is a full or half day visit.

TESTIMONIALS

“Our Students really loved the experience!

Today our students enjoyed a Book Week experience with a special visitor, who is an author and a teacher – Steven Huynh. He visited students from Kindy to Year 6 sharing one of his books “Just Enough”. He discussed how he created the story, his experience as an author, how he selected the characters based on WA animals and linked his books to our whole school approach ‘Talk for Writing’, helping our students to connect how they too could become an author one day.
